Product Details

PATON StandardTIG 270 digital inverter welder is optimised for TIG (HF) inert gas shielded arc welding, manual submerged electrode arc welding (MMA) and semi-automatic MIG/MAG arc welding (as a source with external feeder) with direct current. Each of the methods mentioned above allows us to use pulsed current (PULSE function). The StandardTIG 270 features a 70% duty cycle and a 3-year warranty.

An additional advantage is the CLEAN mode, which offers cleaning of stainless-steel parts and their weld seams from oxides and heat tint, as well as surface polishing to restore its aesthetic appearance and corrosion resistance properties. To operate in CLEAN mode, it is necessary to additionally purchase a special electrolytic liquid for the passivation of high-alloy steels and a PATON TIG brush. Without these accessories, cleaning and polishing of stainless steel using this function is not possible.

PATON TIG Welders FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a TIG welder package with UK-specification equipment, in standard, professional and master levels.

What does UK specification mean on a TIG welder?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The term is not a fixed standard and is used differently by different sellers and makers. It usually suggests a machine intended for the UK mains supply, often with a suitable plug and manual in English, but this can vary.

Do not rely on the label alone. Check the data plate and manual for the supply voltage and phase, the plug or breaker rating, and the gas connection, and have a qualified electrician confirm the supply before first use.

Should I choose DC or AC/DC?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

DC machines weld steel, stainless steel and copper alloys. Aluminium and magnesium alloys are normally welded with AC, so an AC/DC machine is the usual choice if you expect to weld them.

If you will only weld steel and stainless, DC is simpler. If aluminium might come up, consider AC/DC now, as a DC-only machine generally cannot be upgraded to AC. Check the manual or ask the maker if you are unsure.

Single-phase or three-phase: which suits me?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Single-phase machines run from a standard supply and suit small workshops, garages and mobile use. Three-phase machines are normally larger, suit heavier work and need a three-phase supply.

Check your supply and breaker ratings before choosing. A machine that cannot be supplied properly will not reach its rated output, and an undersized supply can cause nuisance tripping.

Do I need a water-cooled package?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A water-cooled package suits heavy duty and longer welds at higher current, because the torch stays cooler and more comfortable. An air-cooled package is lighter and simpler and fine for many jobs.

If you choose water cooling, use the recommended coolant and check level and flow before welding. Running a water-cooled torch without coolant can destroy it.
