Miller’s MigMatic S500i fully synergic MIG/MAG systems feature the one-of-a-kind Miller drive system designed for the highest level of wire feed performance and reliability. All modules are bespoke to the system and built to be trouble-free for high-productivity welding. It has never been as easy to achieve excellent welding performances. Always enjoy full control.

    Features

    • Trigger program switch: re-call up to 4 pre-set programs from the torch trigger (any standard MIG torch) for increased productivity on more complex objects.
    • Miller robustness: tested and approved for heavy-duty welding under the harshest conditions.
    • Toughest wire drive mechanism: 4-roll drive system ensures trouble-free wire feeding.
    • Energy efficient: energy saving Fan-On-Demand power source cooling system operates only when needed, reducing noise and the number of contaminations pulled from the machine.
    • Full synergic MIG/MAG with pre-sets: synergic lines for all common wire/gas combinations with pre-sets of starts/stop parameters for optimal welds.
    • Wind Tunnel Technology: internal airflow protects electrical components and PC boards from dirt, dust and debris, greatly improving reliability.
    • Ease of use and versatility: large intuitive LCD panel for quick and precise setting of advanced weld parameters.

    415v MIG Welders FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a three-phase MIG welder for workshop and production use.

    Who needs a three-phase MIG welder?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Three-phase machines suit fabrication shops, production lines, engineering workshops and anyone welding thicker material or for long periods. A three-phase supply carries more power for a given current per phase, so these machines can give higher output with a steadier load on the supply.

If you only have a single-phase supply, you are limited to single-phase machines.

What is the difference between 400v and 415v on these machines?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

In practice, very little. Older documents and some machine labels refer to 415v, while the current nominal figure for a UK three-phase supply is usually given as 400v. Machines are normally designed to work within a tolerance either side of their rated input, but the allowed range depends on the maker and the model.

Check the data plate and the manual for the supply the machine accepts, compare that with the measured supply at your site, and ask a qualified electrician if you are unsure.

Do I need special wiring or a fuse rating to install one?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Yes, it needs a three-phase connection with the correct cable size and protection for the machine's input current, installed by a competent electrician. The manual states the recommended supply cable and fuse or breaker rating.

Do not connect a machine to a circuit that has not been checked for the load. Poor supply causes tripping, overheating and unreliable welding.

What does a high duty cycle give me?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Duty cycle is the proportion of a ten-minute period the machine can weld at a given current before it must cool. A higher duty cycle at your working current means fewer interruptions on long welds.

If you weld continuously at high current, look at the rating at that current rather than the headline maximum.
