Portability is number one when you have to go to the job — because it can’t come to you. The MPi 220P contains all you need to MIG weld in one small lightweight package. With the flip of a switch, all processes are available to meet the application at hand. Full weld process capability of MIG/MAG, Pulse, Stick, and TIG are available to meet the demand of current applications. Package includes 0.8/1mm V-Groove Drive roll kit, workpiece clamp and power cord.

    Features

Large graphical display: guides user through process and parameter setup with ease and high visibility.

Synergic welding mode offers the simplicity of single-knob control. The machine will select the correct voltage and amperage based on the wire feed speed (WFS) set by the operator.

Adjustable Hot Start™ for Stick arc starts. Adjust the optimal start current for the application. The current automatically increases the output amperage at the start of a weld.

Thermal Overload Protection (Click for Demonstration) - shuts down unit and activates over temperature light if the airflow is blocked or duty cycle is exceeded. Automatically resets when a fault is corrected and the unit cools.

Built-in upslope/downslope function for TIG helps provide better arc starts and reduces craters.

Adjustable flow and post-flow give the operator better control of the gas parameters affecting the weld zone.

    230v Arc Welders FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing and using a 230 volt single phase arc welder.

    Why choose a 230 volt arc welder?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A 230 volt single phase welder plugs into the ordinary mains supply found in most workshops, garages and homes, so there is no need for a three phase installation. Modern inverter designs draw modest current for the welding power they produce.

They suit repair work, fabrication, maintenance and light industrial use, and they are popular both with trade users and with serious hobbyists.

Does the plug and fuse on my supply matter?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Yes. The welder draws more current at its maximum setting than a typical household appliance. Check its input current on the data plate and make sure the plug, socket, cable and circuit protection are rated for it.

A socket circuit that is too small will trip, overheat or give a weak arc. Some machines are supplied with a particular plug rating. Have a qualified electrician check or upgrade the supply if you are unsure.

How do I choose the right output current?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Think about the thickest metal and the largest electrode you expect to use regularly, then choose a machine that provides that current comfortably within its duty cycle, not at its limit.

A machine with some spare capacity runs cooler and lasts longer. As a rough guide, small portable units handle light fabrication and repairs, and larger single phase machines cope with thicker steel and bigger electrodes, but exact limits vary between models.

What is the difference between a transformer and an inverter welder?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Transformer welders use a heavy iron and copper transformer to reduce the voltage. They are robust and simple, but they are heavy and usually draw more current from the supply for the same output.

Inverter welders convert the supply electronically before reducing it, which makes them noticeably lighter and smaller, and usually gives a smoother, more controllable arc. Most current 230 volt welders are inverters. The exact weight and energy saving vary from machine to machine, so compare the weight and input current on the data plate and in the manual for the machines you are considering.
