The 3M Speedglas G5-03 Pro Welding Helmet uses next-generation technology to help provide dynamic welding protection. Intuitively designed for the challenges faced on the job, this helmet setup includes a haptic function. Just tap 3 times anywhere on either side of the helmet to activate grind or cut mode. We make use of the welding technology of the future, today — equip the 3M Speedglas G5-03 Pro Welding Helmet with various accessories, such as a task-light, neck cover and head cover to configure the helmet to meet your specific needs.

3M Speedglas Welding Helmet, G5-03 Pro is specifically designed for the versatile welder. The helmet allows you to switch between welding and grinding tasks through the new Tap functionality. With highly customisable adjustment settings, including more control over how you see your weld pool, and how you configure the helmet for additional protection against radiation, sparks and spatter, G5-03 Pro allows you to take control over your protection. Features 3M Speedglas Natural Colour Technology, Variable Colour Technology (with G5-01/03VC), and a Tack Welding Mode (with G5-01/03TW). The new optional Task Light also allows you to see more of your work piece. The optional helmet adaptor system also enables the connection of a hard hat for welders requiring head protection.

With its smart, compact design, the 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator is specially designed to meet your welding needs. Its continuous airflow provides filtered air that removes much of the heat and sweat generated during welding. Using the Adflo respirator gives you increased protection and comfort all day long.

    Speedglas Adflo Helmets FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a powered air welding helmet.

Why choose a powered air helmet instead of a standard helmet and extraction?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A standard helmet protects your eyes and face but does nothing for the air you breathe. Fume extraction captures fume at the source, but it may not catch everything, especially when you move around or work in awkward positions.

A powered helmet protects the welder personally, wherever they work, and is useful for longer jobs, confined or poorly ventilated areas, and welding on materials with more hazardous fume. It is often used alongside extraction, not instead of it. Your risk assessment decides which controls you need.

What filters do I need for welding fume?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Welding fume is mostly fine particles, so a particle filter of a suitable class is the basic requirement. Some units also allow a pre-filter or a spark guard in front of the main filter to catch larger dust and hot spatter and help the main filter last longer. What is fitted depends on your unit, so check the manual.

Welding can also produce gases such as ozone and oxides of nitrogen, and some coatings or solvents add vapours. In that case a combination filter may be needed. Use only filters approved for your unit, and choose them from your risk assessment and the maker's guidance, never by assumption.

What is the difference between the helmet shells and the filter options?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The helmet shell gives the head and face protection, and the filter in the front window darkens to protect your eyes from the arc. Different filters offer different features, such as a wider view, a number of shade ranges, a setting for tack welding, or a natural colour view.

Some helmets are offered without a filter, so you can pick the one that suits your work. Think about the processes you do: for low-amp TIG a sensitive filter helps, and for heavy MIG a wide shade range is useful.

How do I choose between auto-darkening filter types?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Look at the shade range, the size of the viewing window, the sensitivity at low current, the number of arc sensors and the switching speed. Variable shade filters suit people who switch between processes and currents, while fixed shade filters are fine for a single repeated job.

A larger window gives a wider view but the helmet is heavier. If you do TIG or other low-current work, make sure the filter is rated for it. Try a few on if you can, as comfort and clarity matter during a long shift.
