Speedglas G5-01, More versatile & comfortable than ever.

The 3M Speedglas Heavy-Duty Welding Helmet G5-01 builds on the 9100 series. Having more adjustable features than ever - from the colour as seen through the welding filter to the direction of the airflow and the level of coverage.

3M Speedglas have been conducting extensive research into designing a welding helmet that is constructed to be reliable and extremely adaptable to a welder’s needs and situation. The result of their research is the G5-01 Welding Helmet. Built for heavy-duty, high-amperage welding and grinding, the G5-01 Welding Helmet connects to the 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator to deliver TH3-rated protection.

The G5-01/03NC welding filter has Natural Colour Technology so welders can see colours more naturally and have improved contrast during welding.

With its smart, compact design, the 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator is specially designed to meet your welding needs. Its continuous airflow provides filtered air that takes much of the heat and sweat out of welding. By using the Adflo respirator, you get both increased protection and comfort all day long.

Adjustable airflow

With the helmet’s new duct system, users can direct the airflow to either their face (1) or visor (2), as well as the amount of air coming from the top outlet (3) vs. the two side outlets(4). With greater control over personalised settings, users can balance the airflow’s cooling effect while minimising flows that might dry out their nose or eyes.

Stay Protected

This flip-up functionality allows you to seamlessly switch between welding and grinding tasks while maintaining powered air respiratory protection. The clear visor also allows you to set up, inspect and move around the workpiece without the need to remove the face protection or break the positive pressure respiratory seal.

A system for many needs

Designed for heavy-duty high-amperage welding and grinding, the G5-01 welding helmet connects to the 3M Adflo PAPR system to provide TH3-rated respiratory protection (APF 4'0). The robust Adflo respirator provides all the features expected in a premium system, including ease of use.

Tailor to fit your preferences

New Headband Design - Improved self-adjusting comfort paddles along your forehead. Also features a rotation stopper, designed to simplify donning of the helmet.

Adjustment options - Control the distance and angle from your eyes to the clear visor and welding filter.

Extra-large back pad - Available as an option for enhanced comfort.

3M Connected Equipment App

Speedglas Adflo Helmets FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a powered air welding helmet.

What is a powered air welding helmet and how does it work?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

It combines an auto-darkening welding helmet with a powered air purifying respirator. A battery-powered blower worn on the belt draws air through filters, and a breathing tube carries the cleaned air up into the helmet, where it flows over the face.

The filters remove particles such as welding fume, and some systems can take a gas filter as well. The constant flow also keeps the face cooler and helps stop the visor fogging. It protects against what the filters are designed to capture, not against everything, so the filters must suit the work.

Why choose a powered air helmet instead of a standard helmet and extraction?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A standard helmet protects your eyes and face but does nothing for the air you breathe. Fume extraction captures fume at the source, but it may not catch everything, especially when you move around or work in awkward positions.

A powered helmet protects the welder personally, wherever they work, and is useful for longer jobs, confined or poorly ventilated areas, and welding on materials with more hazardous fume. It is often used alongside extraction, not instead of it. Your risk assessment decides which controls you need.

What does the protection factor mean?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The protection factor is a rating of how much a respirator reduces the amount of contaminant you breathe compared with the air outside. A higher number means more reduction, but the figure only applies when the whole system is correctly fitted, maintained and used with the right filters and a good face seal.

The figure depends on the helmet and headtop combination, so check the maker's literature for your set-up. It is not a guarantee, and it does not cover gases or vapours unless you are using a suitable gas filter.

What is the difference between the helmet shells and the filter options?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The helmet shell gives the head and face protection, and the filter in the front window darkens to protect your eyes from the arc. Different filters offer different features, such as a wider view, a number of shade ranges, a setting for tack welding, or a natural colour view.

Some helmets are offered without a filter, so you can pick the one that suits your work. Think about the processes you do: for low-amp TIG a sensitive filter helps, and for heavy MIG a wide shade range is useful.
