The further development of the popular Sphere series combines classic design with the technical innovations of the modern Optrel helmet series for a clear and colour-realistic view of the weld pool with full protection.

With an eye to the future, Optrel Sphere X welding helmets are equipped with IsoFit X as standard, which allows for quick and easy attachment of an industrial safety helmet. The two-position lock function (Position Locker) for a securely opened or closed helmet is also already integrated. This means that nothing stands in the way of meeting the increasing demands of occupational safety.

  • Crystal-clear brightness level 2.0 for optimum visibility even between welding points
  • Perfect for TIG & precision welding
  • Perfect for stainless steel, aluminium, thin sheet metal
  • Minimal colour distortion, maximum detail accuracy

Optrel Welding Helmets FAQs

Answers for buyers choosing a premium auto-darkening helmet, from light state and colour view to lenses, power and care.

What does true colour view mean on an auto-darkening filter?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Standard filters tend to give the work a strong green or yellow tint. A true colour filter is designed to show a more natural colour range, so you can tell the weld pool, heat tint and surrounding metal apart more easily.

It is a feature of the filter design, not a separate safety rating, and makers describe it in their own terms. The protective shade, optical class and UV and infrared protection still matter just as much, so compare those on the data sheet as well. If you do detailed or colour-critical work such as stainless TIG, a more natural view is often appreciated, but it is a comfort and visibility choice rather than a necessity.

How do I pick the right shade setting for my welding process and current?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The correct shade depends mainly on the process and the welding current. Higher current gives a brighter arc and needs a darker shade. Common guidance is to use the maker's recommended shade table for your process and amperage, and to prefer the suggested shade rather than the minimum.

A sensible method is to begin with a shade that feels slightly darker than you think you need, then move lighter in small steps only if you cannot see the pool, staying within the recommended range for that process. Never go lighter than the range for your job just to see better. Your helmet manual and your risk assessment should have the final say.

What shade range do I need if I weld at high current?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Heavier work needs a filter that goes darker. Shade tables generally put higher-current welding at the darker end of the scale, and the shade needed rises with the current and varies with the process. Plasma cutting also has its own recommended range.

So if you regularly use high currents, check that the filter's dark range reaches the shade your process and current call for in a recognised shade table, such as the one in your helmet manual. A filter with a narrower range may suit light fabrication but fall short for heavy stick or high-amp TIG. Always work from the shade table in your manual and your own risk assessment.

When should I replace the cover lenses?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The outer cover lens protects the filter from spatter, scratches and impact. Replace it when it becomes scratched, pitted with spatter or hazy, because a damaged lens reduces how clearly you can see the work and the filter.

The inner lens, where fitted, should be replaced if it is cracked, badly scratched or discoloured by smoke. Cover lenses are consumable parts that exist to protect the filter, so change them before they degrade your view. Always fit the lens designed for your helmet, as shape and fit differ between models, and check the manual for the right part and how to remove and refit it without touching the electronics.
