Hypertherm’s Powermax 125 plasma system delivers maximum power and performance to provide thick metal cuts. Able to make short work of the toughest of cutting and gouging applications, this plasma unit offers a 100% duty cycle, a 25mm (1”) mechanised pierce capability, and fast gouging metal removal. The Powermax 125 provides the latest technological innovation, such as the Smart Sense function, which automatically adjusts the gas pressure. The Duramax torches are available in various styles; operators can select the ideal tool for the job. Options include hand cutting or gouging, portable automation, X-Y table, and robotic cutting or gouging.

Product Details

Maximum productivity

  • Finish jobs faster, with cut speeds five times greater than oxyfuel on 12mm (1/2") mild steel
  • Superior cut and gouge quality reduces the time for grinding and edge preparation
  • 100% duty cycle to maximise the operator’s cutting time
  • Multiple, easy-to-use torch styles to undertake a variety of tasks with the same system

Easy to use for cutting and gouging

  • No longer the need to change air pressure, thanks to the Smart Sense technology that guarantees a secure setting. The technology can also detect electrode end-of-life, which automatically turns off power to the torch to prevent further damage to functional parts of the workpiece
  • SpringStart technology ensures consistent starting and a more reliable torch
  • Drag cut at full output with a patented shield reduces dross build-up for a much smoother cutting experience

Built to handle tough jobs

  • Certified reliability confirms peak performance, even in the harshest of working environments
  • Duramax torches are meticulously designed for high impact and heat resistance

All Hypertherm Machine Systems FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a plasma cutting system for mechanised and automated use.

What is a machine plasma system and what is it for?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A machine system uses a straight, mechanised torch mounted on a cutting table, a motion carriage, a bevel head or a robot, instead of being held in the hand. It is used for repeatable, accurate cutting of shapes and profiles from sheet and plate.

On smaller systems the power source is the same kind of air plasma unit as a hand system, while larger high-definition systems use other gases such as oxygen. The torch, the interfaces and the way it is controlled are set up for automation. Many machine systems also come with a hand torch for occasional manual work.

How do I choose the size of machine system for my cutting table?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Choose by the thickest material you cut regularly at a good quality, using the recommended cut rating rather than the maximum severance figure. Production work needs a little spare capacity so the machine is not running at its limit all day.

Also consider the cutting speed you need, the pierce capability for starting cuts mid-plate, and whether the table and controller can use the power source you choose.

What interface does the plasma system need to talk to my CNC controller?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Machine plasma systems normally have an interface for the cutting table controller, so that the controller can start the arc and receive signals back such as arc transfer. Some systems provide extra options, such as a digital or serial link for control and diagnostics, or an arc voltage signal for a torch height controller. What is provided, and the cables and connectors needed, vary from one system to another.

Check what your controller and height control require, and compare it with the interface described in the manual for the system you are considering. If you are unsure, our team can help you match the pieces.

Why does arc voltage and torch height control matter?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The distance between the torch and the plate, known as stand-off height, has a big effect on cut quality, edge angle and consumable life. As plate warps and the table moves, the height needs to be adjusted automatically.

A height controller does this by reading the arc voltage and moving the torch up or down. It needs a reliable voltage signal from the plasma system, so check that your system supports the interface you plan to use.
