Many tasks, many locations, single 1ph device.

The SPEEDTEC 180C is one of Lincoln Electrics latest generation of state-of-the-art inverter single-phase compact MIG machines. Lincoln Electric has built a fully professional machine packed with many features, into a small light-weight compact housing that maximises portability. The features in question make this range extremely versatile and can be used for many different applications that can be easily moved around workshops or transported to any location effortlessly. These units can be powered from the mains supply or are also suitable for use with motor generators, whatever is best for the operator.

The SPEEDTEC 180C machines are equipped with Power Factor Correction (PFC), a feature that can support high output welding currents from a single phase 230V1Ph 50/60Hz supply, allowing it to be used with a long (up to max 100m) primary extension cable. With electronically designed welding waveforms, Lincoln Electric offers these multi-process units for MIG, Stick or TIG modes. The SPEEDTEC 180C are ready to tackle many different welding applications. The welding performance gives excellent results for Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminium (using 200mm diameter spools) and is the perfect machine to work with mixed gas and 100% CO2 also with self-shielding wires (Innershield).

    230v MIG Welders FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a MIG welder that runs from a normal single-phase supply.

Who are single-phase MIG welders for?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

They suit workshops, garages, farms, mobile engineers and light fabrication where a standard single-phase supply is all you have. Modern inverter designs draw relatively little current for their output, so many can run from a normal socket or a suitable dedicated circuit.

They are popular for both industrial and home use, and cover a wide range of work from thin sheet to moderate thickness.

What is the maximum thickness a single-phase machine can weld?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

It depends on the machine's output and the process. Smaller machines suit thin sheet and light fabrication, while larger single-phase units cope with thicker plate, especially with good joint preparation and multiple passes.

Check the maker's stated capacity rather than relying only on the headline current, and remember that duty cycle limits how long you can weld at the top of the range.

    Should I buy a bigger machine than I think I need?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A little extra capacity is often worthwhile, because a machine working well within its rating runs cooler, copes better with longer welds and gives room to grow. Very large machines use more power, are heavier and may need a stronger supply.

Think about the thickest material you will weld and how continuously you will weld.

How does duty cycle affect me?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Duty cycle is the proportion of a ten-minute period a machine can weld at a given current before it must cool. Machines usually have a much higher duty cycle at lower current.

If you weld for long periods at high current, choose a machine with a suitable rating. If the machine overheats, a thermal cut-out stops it until it cools.
