If you want the best compact MIG look no further.

The TransSteel 2200 is a compact, 3-in-1 solution. It is the first single-phase inverter power source from Fronius that is also multiprocess-capable, bringing together MMA, MIG /MAG and TIG in a single device. The TransSteel 2200 is characterised by the intelligent design of the device, ease of use, robustness and a high level of reliability you would expect from a Fronius machine. Weighing only 15.5Kg, it is also one of the lightest devices on the market.

Why we love the TransSteel 2200C!

  • Multi-Process MIG/TIG/MMA Multi-Voltage 110 & 230v Power Source
  • Up to 210A MIG with Synergic Function
  • Up to 230A TIG with Pulse
  • Up to 180A MMA with Arc-force, HotStart and anti-stick functions
  • Internal Wire feeder can be mounted with either 100mm or 200mm Wire Spools
  • Easy polarity change - simply plug the polarity reverser in front of the machine, no tools are required
  • Easy process switchover thanks to an additional gas solenoid valve on the rear for TIG
  • Optional Lift TIG torch operates without the need for a gas valve
  • Parts box inside the machine for storing spares.

230v MIG Welders FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a MIG welder that runs from a normal single-phase supply.

Who are single-phase MIG welders for?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

They suit workshops, garages, farms, mobile engineers and light fabrication where a standard single-phase supply is all you have. Modern inverter designs draw relatively little current for their output, so many can run from a normal socket or a suitable dedicated circuit.

They are popular for both industrial and home use, and cover a wide range of work from thin sheet to moderate thickness.

What is the difference between an inverter and a conventional single-phase MIG welder?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

An inverter converts the supply electronically, which generally makes the machine lighter and smaller, and often gives finer control of the arc. A conventional (transformer) machine uses a heavy transformer, so it is bulkier, but it is simple and robust.

How much current each type draws for a given output varies between machines, so compare the input current and weight on the data plate and in the manual. For portability and a limited supply an inverter is often the better choice, while some people prefer a transformer design for rugged, simple workshop use.

Can I plug it into a normal socket?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Some smaller machines can, but many need a dedicated circuit with suitable protection, and some larger single-phase machines need a heavier supply than a normal domestic socket gives. Check the machine's input current and the supply and fuse or breaker rating it requires.

Have a qualified electrician check the supply if you are unsure. Running a machine beyond what the circuit can supply causes tripping and can be dangerous.

Should I buy a bigger machine than I think I need?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A little extra capacity is often worthwhile, because a machine working well within its rating runs cooler, copes better with longer welds and gives room to grow. Very large machines use more power, are heavier and may need a stronger supply.

Think about the thickest material you will weld and how continuously you will weld.
