This product is made exclusively for the 3M G5-01/03 Heavy Duty Welding Helmet. This neck protector is made with leather to protect the neck against sparks and flames when connected with the G5-01/03 welding helmet.
Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing and looking after spare parts for a heavy-duty powered air welding helmet.
The outer protection plates wear fastest, because they take spatter and scratches. After that come the sweatbands, which absorb sweat and break down, and the head and neck protectors, which wear from heat and washing.Filters for the powered air unit, the face seal and the battery are all consumable too. Keeping a few spare outer plates and a sweatband means you can stay protected and comfortable without waiting when one is spoilt.
Towelling and fleece-type bands absorb sweat well and feel soft but wear quickly and need replacing often. Leather bands last longer and are easier to wipe clean, but they feel firmer and can be warmer.Whichever you prefer, replace the band when it is hard, stained or no longer comfortable. A fresh band also keeps sweat from running into the headband mechanism and the helmet interior.
Change it when your view is reduced by scratches, spatter marks or pitting, or when it is cracked or warped by heat. A damaged plate also scatters light, which tires your eyes.Heat-resistant and scratch-resistant plates last longer in tough conditions. Always fit the plate the way the manual shows and check that it seats flat so that no spatter can get behind it.
A magnifying lens fits behind the welding filter and makes fine detail easier to see, which is helpful for close TIG work or when your eyesight needs a little help. The strength is measured in diopters, and a higher number gives more magnification.Start with a lower strength and move up only if you need to. Too much magnification makes your working distance awkward, and anyone with a prescription should check with their optician first.
