Kemppi Mig Welder Machine Spares FAQs

Practical answers on choosing and looking after spare parts for a MIG welding machine and its wire feeder.

What do MIG welder machine spares include?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

They are the parts of the MIG power source and wire feeder themselves rather than the torch consumables. Typical examples are side and top cover plates, casings, door stops and locks, connection rails, control cards, interconnecting cables and wire feed parts.

The parts split into structural ones that keep the machine closed and protected, and electrical or electronic ones that affect how it behaves. Knowing which kind you need helps you identify it correctly and decide who should fit it.

How do I identify the right MIG machine spare?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Use the rating plate on the machine. It normally shows the maker, the supply requirements, the performance ratings and what the machine is suited to, and for an older unit it is often the only specification you have. Note the full type designation and serial number.

Then match any part number marked on the old part. Versions of a machine can differ in small ways, so the plate details and the part number together are more reliable than how the part looks. Where the machine is a separate power source and wire feeder, check the plate on the unit that the part belongs to.

Are the parts for the power source and the wire feeder separate?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

On many MIG systems the power source and the wire feeder are separate units joined by an interconnecting cable, and each has its own rating plate and its own spares. On compact machines the feeder is built into the same casing.

Check which unit the part belongs to before you order. A cover or a control card for the feeder will not fit the power source, and the identification details for each unit may differ. If you are unsure, ask the maker or our team, quoting the type designation from the plate.

What should I know before replacing a control card?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Electronic boards can be damaged by static electricity, often without any visible sign. General good practice is to keep the new card in its protective packaging until fitting, handle it by the edges, discharge static first and avoid touching components.

The card also has to match the machine version. Note the label or marking on the old card and check it against the plate details. Isolate the machine first, and note that some boards may need matching software, so follow the maker's service instructions. If you are not competent to work on mains electrical parts, use a qualified engineer or service workshop.
