Beta e90 SFA with PFU PAPR Parts FAQs

Replacement filters, spark shields, hoses, head covers and fittings for a powered air-purifying welding helmet system, and how to choose the right ones.

How do I find the right replacement part for my powered air welding helmet system?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Start with the label on the blower unit and the parts list in the manual. Makers say the blower label shows the helmet, hood and filters that make up the approved system, so use only the components listed there. Note any part number on the old item.

HSE guidance says replacement parts should ideally come from the original manufacturer, so the equipment keeps performing as intended and gives the protection the maker states. Do not swap in an unlisted part to make something fit. If you cannot match a part from the label and the manual, ask our team before ordering.

What do the pre-filter and the particle filter each do?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The pre-filter is a coarse outer filter that protects the main particle filter behind it. HSE notes that some manufacturers recommend pre-filters for exactly this reason. The particle filter does the fine filtering that protects you from welding fume.

The pre-filter is often the item changed more frequently, but how often depends on the maker, the work and the amount of fume, so follow the manual. Both must be the types listed for your blower. Particle filters do not remove welding gases, so they are no substitute for good ventilation and extraction.

How do I know when to change the filters?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

HSE guidance says filters have limited capacity and can clog, and should be changed as the manufacturer instructs. Change one if it is damaged, visibly contaminated, past its shelf-life date, or breathing or airflow becomes harder. For filters on powered respirators, the maker sets the change interval, not a fixed figure that suits every system.

Makers also describe a low-airflow alarm or a much shorter battery run time as cues to check the filters. Marking the fitting date on the filter helps you keep track. Do not wash, tap or blow out a filter to reuse it, because that can damage the filter element.

How do I look after the battery and charger?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Use only the battery and charger the manufacturer specifies, and do not use a battery that is damaged. Follow the maker's storage, charging and care instructions, because battery condition affects how well a powered respirator performs.

HSE guidance says the battery should be fully charged before use and that battery charge and flow rate are key maintenance checks. Batteries wear with use, so run time gradually shortens, but a clogged filter has the same effect. Storage and charging advice varies between makers, so follow your manual.
