WELDING & RESPIRATORY PROTECTION IN HARD HAT WORK AREAS

Kemppi introduces the Delta 90 SFA models, built to provide the very best head protection for welders and fabricators working in the toughest, most extreme working environments and conditions. This range is perfect for welding applications in all kinds of industries, such as shipbuilding, mining and construction sites, to name a few.

This line of models, when combined with the FA Flow Control system, competes with the best of welding respirator systems. Clean, breathable air is channelled over the welder’s face from a choice of personal options: a Li-ion battery-powered filter pack or a locally supplied air source. The welding helmet is designed to deliver a comfortable breathing zone through a positive-pressure design. It is certified to the TH2 standard in the European Union and ensures that more than 98% of contaminated air remains isolated inside the helmet.

    Kemppi Air Fed Helmets FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing a welding or grinding helmet with a powered or flow-controlled air system.

What is the difference between a powered respirator unit and a flow-controlled compressed air system?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A powered respirator unit is a belt-worn blower with a battery that filters the surrounding air and passes it to the helmet. A compressed-air system feeds clean breathing air from a supply through a flow-control unit.

A battery unit gives freedom to move without a hose to a fixed supply. A compressed-air system needs a suitable air source and clean, properly filtered air, but has no battery to charge. Choose by the work, the site and what you already have.

Which helmet should I choose for welding and which for grinding?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A welding helmet has an auto-darkening filter for arc work. A grinding helmet has a clear visor and is built for impact from particles and sparks.

If you do both, you can use a welding head for arc work and swap to a grinding head on the same blower, if the system allows. This is often easier than a single compromise helmet.

Why are some helmets sold with different filter models, sizes and sensor numbers?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Larger filters give a bigger view, and more arc sensors reduce the risk that the filter fails to darken when the arc is hidden, for example in awkward positions. Advanced filters add features such as adjustable sensitivity and delay.

If you weld out of position or at low current, look for a higher specification. For general work a simpler filter can be enough.

Can I use the system with a beard or glasses?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Facial hair under a seal can let contaminated air in, so tight-fitting masks need a clean-shaven face. A loose-fitting powered helmet or hood does not rely on a seal, so it can be used with facial hair, but check the maker's guidance for your own helmet.

Spectacles often fit under the helmet, but check clearance and comfort. Make sure nothing blocks the airflow around the face or lets contaminated air reach the breathing zone.
