The new Optrel HELIX is a unique welding/grinding helmet solution that goes against the norm, with a flip-up mechanism inside the helmet. This minimises the weight and lowers the number of consumables. The auto-darkening lens features a nose cut-out, bringing the glare shield closer to your eyes with up to six times larger field of view. With the Helix Quattro, Optrel offers a welding helmet for work under the most difficult conditions.

A slide-up helmet with internal ADF that has all the technical features of an Optrel helmet:

    • Panorama XXL field of view
    • EN379 classification 1/1/1/1
    • Shade levels 4-14
    • ShadeTronic®
    • Fadetronic
    • Rechargeable battery unit with charging via welding arc
    • 5-point multi-detection sensor technology

    Product Details

The new internal flip-up welding helmet with a panoramic field of view.

The Helix Quattro is designed for extreme performance. With a protection level range from 4 to 14 and the highest optical classification according to EN379 of 1/1/1/1, it is the ideal protection for heavy and most demanding welding tasks, even in extremely demanding positions or viewing angles.

ShadeTronic - Always the right shading level. Fully automatic, stepless, safe. A light sensor continuously measures the intensity of the welding arc and regulates glare protection across the entire shading level range.

Panorama-XXL-field of view - The patented nose cut-out brings the glare shield closer to your eyes. The result: a much larger field of vision and a clear separation between the mouth and eye area, which also prevents tarnishing of the protective lens.

Fadetronic - Fade-out when switching off the protection level after welding. Wellness for your eyes for fatigue-free work.

    Optrel Welding Helmets FAQs

Answers for buyers choosing a premium auto-darkening helmet, from light state and colour view to lenses, power and care.

What is a low light state and why might it matter to me?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The light state is how dark the filter looks before the arc strikes. Many auto-darkening filters sit at a fairly dark light state, which can make it hard to position the torch, inspect a weld or grind without lifting the helmet. A filter with a much lighter light state, a number closer to 2 than 4, lets you see the joint more clearly between welds.

That can mean less helmet flipping and less eye strain, especially on fine TIG work or in dim workshops. The benefit is mostly about comfort and accuracy: the filter must still darken fully to the correct protective shade when the arc starts. Check the maker's data plate and manual for the light state and dark shade range.

What does true colour view mean on an auto-darkening filter?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Standard filters tend to give the work a strong green or yellow tint. A true colour filter is designed to show a more natural colour range, so you can tell the weld pool, heat tint and surrounding metal apart more easily.

It is a feature of the filter design, not a separate safety rating, and makers describe it in their own terms. The protective shade, optical class and UV and infrared protection still matter just as much, so compare those on the data sheet as well. If you do detailed or colour-critical work such as stainless TIG, a more natural view is often appreciated, but it is a comfort and visibility choice rather than a necessity.

What shade range do I need if I weld at high current?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Heavier work needs a filter that goes darker. Shade tables generally put higher-current welding at the darker end of the scale, and the shade needed rises with the current and varies with the process. Plasma cutting also has its own recommended range.

So if you regularly use high currents, check that the filter's dark range reaches the shade your process and current call for in a recognised shade table, such as the one in your helmet manual. A filter with a narrower range may suit light fabrication but fall short for heavy stick or high-amp TIG. Always work from the shade table in your manual and your own risk assessment.

When should I replace the cover lenses?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The outer cover lens protects the filter from spatter, scratches and impact. Replace it when it becomes scratched, pitted with spatter or hazy, because a damaged lens reduces how clearly you can see the work and the filter.

The inner lens, where fitted, should be replaced if it is cracked, badly scratched or discoloured by smoke. Cover lenses are consumable parts that exist to protect the filter, so change them before they degrade your view. Always fit the lens designed for your helmet, as shape and fit differ between models, and check the manual for the right part and how to remove and refit it without touching the electronics.
