Compatible with standard hard hats. Mount the Weldcap® hard with a minimum of effort on your industrial helmet. The cap’s design accommodates the use of ear muffs.

Multi-purpose use at utmost protection - Welding: Darkening levels from 9 to 12 cover the majority of welding applications.  Grinding: With its Shade level 3 in not activated mode, the welder has a bright and well-lit view of the workplace. This feature predestinates the Optrel Weldcap® hard for grinding jobs as well.

Extensive field of view - The heart of this innovative product is the optical unit featuring a well-defined nose cut out. The visual unit is placed closer to the eyes, greatly enlarging the welder’s line of sight! This increases the lateral and the horizontal fields of vision and the welders’ performance and safety.

Swift handling - Like a cap; easy to mount and unmount again. Stow it in the Optrel parking buddy when it’s not used.

Minimal weight - The Optrel Weldcap® weighs only 411g / 14.5oz & is an absolute lightweight. Since the ADF is closer to the eyes, the product's weight moves closer to its centre of gravity, increasing its stability and balance. The design eliminates pressure points and reduces strain on the welder’s neck.

Optrel Welding Helmets FAQs

Answers for buyers choosing a premium auto-darkening helmet, from light state and colour view to lenses, power and care.

What is a low light state and why might it matter to me?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The light state is how dark the filter looks before the arc strikes. Many auto-darkening filters sit at a fairly dark light state, which can make it hard to position the torch, inspect a weld or grind without lifting the helmet. A filter with a much lighter light state, a number closer to 2 than 4, lets you see the joint more clearly between welds.

That can mean less helmet flipping and less eye strain, especially on fine TIG work or in dim workshops. The benefit is mostly about comfort and accuracy: the filter must still darken fully to the correct protective shade when the arc starts. Check the maker's data plate and manual for the light state and dark shade range.

What does true colour view mean on an auto-darkening filter?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Standard filters tend to give the work a strong green or yellow tint. A true colour filter is designed to show a more natural colour range, so you can tell the weld pool, heat tint and surrounding metal apart more easily.

It is a feature of the filter design, not a separate safety rating, and makers describe it in their own terms. The protective shade, optical class and UV and infrared protection still matter just as much, so compare those on the data sheet as well. If you do detailed or colour-critical work such as stainless TIG, a more natural view is often appreciated, but it is a comfort and visibility choice rather than a necessity.

Should I choose solar power or a replaceable battery?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Most auto-darkening filters use solar cells, a battery or a combination. Solar cells help keep the filter powered while you work, and a battery can give a backup, which helps in dim conditions or at low arc current.

Whether the battery can be replaced varies by model. A replaceable battery lets you fit a new one when needed, while some filters use a sealed cell that is not designed to be changed, which can limit working life. Check the manual to see how your helmet is powered, whether the battery can be replaced and whether there is a low battery warning. Keep a spare battery to hand if your helmet uses a replaceable type.

When should I replace the cover lenses?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

The outer cover lens protects the filter from spatter, scratches and impact. Replace it when it becomes scratched, pitted with spatter or hazy, because a damaged lens reduces how clearly you can see the work and the filter.

The inner lens, where fitted, should be replaced if it is cracked, badly scratched or discoloured by smoke. Cover lenses are consumable parts that exist to protect the filter, so change them before they degrade your view. Always fit the lens designed for your helmet, as shape and fit differ between models, and check the manual for the right part and how to remove and refit it without touching the electronics.
