POWERFUL, EFFICIENT, VALUE
Master S is designed for high-performance stick (MMA) welding. Power source including cellulose welding characteristics provides great welding results with pleasurable welding experience.
Straight answers to the questions people ask most when choosing and using heavy duty cellulose-capable stick welders.
Cellulose electrodes have a coating rich in organic material that produces a forceful, digging arc and deep penetration. They are widely used for pipeline root and hot passes, especially in vertical-down welding. The forceful arc needs a power source able to supply sufficient output and a suitable arc characteristic. Not every stick welder is designed for these electrodes, so check the manual for your machine to see whether the maker states it is suitable, and which polarity the electrode maker specifies.
Some machines have a dedicated setting or arc characteristic for cellulose electrodes, aimed at giving a steady arc and reducing sticking when you press into the joint. Others rely on adjustable arc force and hot start controls.Check the manual for your own machine to see what it provides and how to use it. Use the standard setting for rutile or basic electrodes, and always follow the electrode maker's current ranges.
Heavy duty stick machines are used for pipelines, pressure and process pipework, structural steel, shipyards, plant maintenance and construction. They provide the output needed for large electrodes and long arcs. Many heavy duty machines need a three phase or other industrial supply, or a generator of adequate size. Check the data plate and manual for the supply your own machine needs.
Industrial machines normally need a correctly rated supply, plug and protective device, with connections made by a qualified electrician. If you plan to use a generator, it must match the supply type on the machine's data plate and have output comfortably above the machine's maximum input, with good voltage regulation.A generator that is too small can cause trips or poor arc performance. Follow the machine maker's generator guidance in the manual.
Higher output suits thicker work, larger electrodes and more continuous welding. Lower output suits lighter pipe and plate and usually needs less supply.Compare the rated current at your normal duty cycle and the largest electrode you plan to use, as shown on the data plate and in the manual. Extra output gives headroom, but it also needs a more capable supply, so match it to your site.
Rutile, basic (low hydrogen) and stainless electrodes can normally be run, within the machine's output limits. Use the standard arc setting for these, not the cellulose setting.Select the electrode according to the material and procedure. For critical welds, the written procedure specifies electrode type, size and current.
